Sri Lanka chase fourth final, second title

Having led a remarkable and successful campaign in 1996 and unsuccessful outings in 2007 and 2011, Sri Lanka would like to seal their fourth final berth and repeat the 1996 feat.

Hopefully we can cross the line this time, says Mahela Jayawardene

Sri Lankan batting stalwarts Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene are eyeing the perfect finish to their illustrious 50-over careers by winning the World Cup next month after two near misses. While right-handed Jayawardene will quit all forms of the game after the Feb. 14-March 29 event, the left-handed Sangakkara may yet continue to play test cricket. Their retirement, though, could be seen as a good omen.

Pain doesn’t matter, I want to play the World Cup: Lasith Malinga

An ankle injury prevented Maliga from playing in Sri Lanka’s seven-match one-day series against New Zealand in the lead-up to the world tournament but he told reporters Sunday he is ready to return.

“Honestly, I don’t know what the pressure means,” he said. “I’m used to all the pressure situations. I have a free mindset and I just want to do what I can do,” Malinga said.
